Having played a starring role for Sunderland in their recurring battle to avoid relegation, Yann M’Vila is finally looking like becoming a Black Cats man permanently after weeks of frustration.

M’Vila is currently with Russian side Rubin Kazan, but made 37 Premier League appearances for Sunderland last term, helping enormously in their successful escape from relegation.

As the season entered it’s climax, both player and club were keen to make the temporary deal a permanent one, with M’Vila reportedly keen on a pay cut from his current £100,000 wages.

But despite having just six months remaining on his Kazan contract, the Russian side were haggling on a fee Sunderland couldn’t agree on.

Reports this week however point to a truce being found between the two clubs, and a move now looks much more likely than at any point this summer.

Former boss Sam Allardyce was particularly keen on acquiring the former Rennes man this summer, and it’s believed that new manager David Moyes is also very happy to continue pursuing the move.

The Black Cats are yet to make any signings this summer, but having parted with a number of last season’s regulars – Wes Brown, Danny Graham, and Steven Fletcher – it’s clear Moyes will follow on Big Sam’s plan of rebuilding at the Stadium of Light.

Signing the steady and reliable midfield qualities of M’Vila – now a proven quantity in the Premier League of course – would hand Moyes some early confidence in a key area of the team.

Having finally broken Kazan’s resolve, the former Manchester United manager will now set about other potential transfer targets.

The Scot has been linked with a number of his former favourites at Old Trafford, including Marouane Fellaini and Adnan Januzaj, and there’s now much for Sunderland fans to be optimistic about this season, starting with the arrival of one of their heroes from last term.
