John Guidetti is ready to leave Manchester City in the search for first team football with relegation rivals Stoke and Sunderland ready to fight it out for the player’s signature.

The 21-year-old, who was brought to the Etihad Stadium by former boss Sven-Göran Eriksson, has been left frustrated by a lack of opportunities at City and has not featured for the club since making his debut in the League Cup victory over West Brom in September 2010.

The Swedish striker has also been plagued by illness and injuries over the past year and a half but is now ready to put that behind him and get his career back on track.

Guidetti told TV4: “I want to play football. Whether that is at Manchester City or somewhere else, I don’t know.

“Right now, it’s a matter of training and fighting. Then, in January and onwards, it’s time to show.”

The Black Cats and the Potters are ready to battle it out for the Sweden international, who could boost either clubs’ bids to stay in the Premier League.

Sunderland, despite a 1-0 win over Man City last time out, are firmly locked in the relegation zone and the club can be found at odds of 17/20 for the drop with Ladbrokes.

The Black Cats are the same price to avoid relegation and stay in the top flight.

While Stoke, after a promising start, are without a win in eight Premier League games and are 4/1 to be playing Championship football next season.

But Mark Hughes’ side are as short as 2/11 to survive the drop and stay in the Premier League.

There is no question both sides would be boosted the arrival of a striker who clearly has an eye for goal with the former IF Brommapojkarna man impressing during a loan spell with Feyenoord, scoring 20 goals in the 2011/2012 Eredivisie season.

But convincing Manuel Pellegrini to part with the talented youngster, who scored twice for Sweden’s Under-21 side on Tuesday night, could be difficult because he is still highly regarded by the City hierarchy.
