Rewind 12 months, Stevan Jovetic had just completed his move from Fiorentina to Manchester City, having top scored for La Viola in the previous two seasons, and things looked on the up for the Montenegrin.

But injury put paid to much of the 2013/14 season, limiting him to 18 appearances, many from the bench, in the sky blue of the Citizens.

He did however catch the eye in those brief appearances, scoring eight times, equating to approximately a goal every 100 minutes.

Now with those injury woes finally behind him, he looks ready to go again.

His performances in pre-season certainly indicate he is willing to fight for his place, having found the net six times in seven appearances.

At 7/1 to top score for the Eastlands club in the coming Premier League campaign, he looks well worth an interest.

Unsurprisingly Sergio Aguero heads the market at 5/6, and he will undoubtedly give backers a run for their money.

He became the most economical striker in Premier League history last season, surpassing even Thierry Henry, notching up another 17 goals.

Like Jovetic, Aguero spent plenty of time on the treatment table in en route to winning the title. Five separate spells on the sidelines, totally around three months out, prevented the Argentine from doing even more damage.

For that reason, investment at odds-on for the man they call ‘Kun’ will appeal to few.

The revelation last season at the Etihad was Yaya Toure.

The Ivorian went from deep lying midfield general, to goal-scoring machine, reaching 20 goals before the season end.

That campaign could well have been a flash in the pan, having his previous best in league football being six. With City’s frontline unlikely to have has much bad luck with injuries as last year, looks avoidable at 5/1 in this market.

Edin Dzeko (4/1) and Alvaro Negredo (20/1) are also prominent in the betting. But with the return of Jovetic to the fore, it is unclear how much game time the pair will get, that is after the latter has returned from a broken foot.
