As the summer transfer festivities creep closer, there are certain players who cannot help but be followed by the spotlight, no matter how much they try and avoid it.
Having overcome the battle with Brad Friedel to be the undisputed number one at Tottenham, Hugo Lloris quickly established himself as one of the Premier League’s best net.
But as the White Hart Lane’s European involvement next season looks continually shaky, rumours of him seeking employment elsewhere are gathering pace.
After coming back to seal a 3-3 draw with West Brom last time out, Tottenham are 10/11 chances to finish inside the top six of the Premier League this season and book a spot in the Europa League next term.
However, the Frenchman has already hinted that he may seek Champions League football next term and with Spurs missing out on that goal, would have to move in order to find it.
Tottenham are thought to be readying themselves for a mammoth bid from long-time Lloris fans Paris St-Germain this summer by lining up possible replacements for the 27-year-old.
The emerging target may surprise a few, with West Brom’s Ben Foster – who is four years Lloris’ senior – the leading candidate to get the Lilywhite gig.
Foster made the perfect audition for the role with a fine display in the stalemate, despite shipping three times.
However, the former Manchester United man has not performed anywhere near the level of Lloris this season, and would be a major step backwards for the north London club should he land there.
Despite plying his trade at a struggling side who spend much of their time under the cosh, Foster has made just 39 saves this term, compared to Lloris’ 76, and kept just three clean sheets as opposed to the Spurs man’s 12.
