Tottenham Hotspur’s failure to hit the back of the net for the second successive Premier League game cost them dearly against Newcastle.

And now the north London club could be about to re-ignite their interest in Zenit St. Petersburg striker Hulk, in an effort to bolster their attacking options.

The team’s latest setback has seen them drift to 25/1 to win the title and 23/10 to finish the campaign in the top four.

For all of Spurs’ creative ingenuity and guile they have struggled to hammer home their territorial advantage at crucial moments so far this season.

A failure to score two goals or more in nine of their 11 league games tells its own story with Brazilian battering ram Hulk potentially the answer for a team lacking punch up front.

Rumours of a move have only intensified as Tottenham continue to toil in front of goal. Added to that, the player himself has spoken of his desire to link up again with Andre Villas-Boas, his former manager at Porto.

Hulk recently told twentyfour7 magazine: “I learned a lot with Andre Villas-Boas at Porto.”

He then added: “I am really happy Villas-Boas is making a mark in England, and it would be fantastic to play under him again one day.”

A £10m loan move had been mooted at the end of the summer transfer window.

That price tag and the late timing of the swoop ultimately put paid to a deal taking place but the Portuguese boss may be tempted to rekindle his interest in the 27-year-old now that shortcomings in his own acquisitions have been exposed.

Former Sevilla star Roberto Soldado has failed to sparkle and like Argentina strike partner, Erik Lamela, will need time to adjust to the intricacies of English football.

However, Hulk’s direct running style, pace and power look the perfect fit for a side in need of variation in their attacking play.

And if AVB and Tottenham continue to come under pressure as January approaches then an incredible deal to secure Hulk’s services could well materialise.
