Judging from some of the Tim Sherwood sound bites the Spurs manager has produced in his short time steering the White Hart Lane ship, the cliché about his honeymoon period ending shouldn’t be lost on him.

The visit of Manchester City to north London is easily the biggest test of Sherwood’s management career to date. Yes, the former Spurs midfielder has had to face both Manchester United and Arsenal so far, but United were hardly at their best at that point and Arsenal shuffled their pack in the FA Cup clash, albeit in minimal fashion.

There isn’t likely to have been a match under Sherwood where Spurs have been as long as 11/4 to win, with a draw available at 13/5 and the visitors the 19/20 favourites.

However, it isn’t the match betting market that should be the focus here, rather the total goals section.

The last five meetings between these two have seen 24 strikes of various qualities ripple the net. Considering the six goal-game that was played out last time, admittedly in very one-sided fashion, and City’s continued penchant for goals; the 7/5 on over 3.5 goals being scored in the game is a very tasty betting treat.

A look at Spurs’ over/under record doesn’t make great reading as far as this particular punt is concerned, with over half of their 22 games in the Premier League failing to even pass the 2.5-goal threshold.

However, most of those were with the rigid Andre-Villas Boas in charge and with Sherwood at the helm it’s been a different story.

The former Blackburn man hasn’t managed a single game that’s seen less than two goals scored so far and with City’s league-leading 63 goals contributing to 13 of their 22 surpassing 3.5 goals, this match is in no danger of being a snooze-fest.
