Southampton will play their first home Premier League game for seven years on Saturday, entertaining Wigan in the hope of taking all three points.

The Saints were far from disgraced at Manchester City on Sunday, and punters who saw their performance are likely to snap up 11/10 odds about a home win here.

Indeed, Nigel Adkins outfit took the lead at one stage at the Etihad, with only two late City goals denying the newly-promoted side a famous victory.

Therefore, many will struggle to find reason to back Wigan at 5/2, in what will likely be a party atmosphere at St. Mary’s.

It is 23/10 regarding the draw, but it should be noted that the Latics managed only three single-point hauls on their travels during the entirety of the last campaign.

In contrast, Southampton won 16 times at home last term, and whilst this was at Championship level, they certainly appear primed to pick up where they left off.

The second tier’s top scorers last year, Southampton are 11//4 to win a match featuring three or more goals, and this definitely appears worthy of attention.

Southampton most regularly scored twice or four times on their own patch last season, whilst only five sides possessed worse defensive records than their visitors last year.

However, Wigan did manage more than a goal per game on their travels last term, and as such the 8/11 concerning both teams scoring on Saturday appeals.

What may prove more profitable though, is backing the Saints to win a match where both sides find the net, which is a 10/3 shot.

Rickie Lambert could prove key to the home side’s chances, after coming off the bench to score in last week’s defeat to Premier League champions City.

Lambert is 9/2 to score first, whilst Jay Rodriguez, who will be keen to impress on his home debut, is a big 13/2 for the opener.

Arouna Kone may have done enough to earn a first start for the visitors meanwhile, and he is a lengthy 8/1 to break the deadlock.
