Cardiff City are planning an audacious swoop to hijack West Ham’s bid to sign Leeds captain and former Bluebirds star Ross McCormack.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been extremely busy so far in the transfer window with moves of Fabio, Kenwyne Jones and Wilfired Zaha set be completed but Cardiff’s business is set to continue with a bid for the leading goal scorer in the Championship.

West Ham have already had a £4m bid rejected for the Scotland international and Sam Allardyce’s side, who are favourites for his signature, are preparing an improved offer to land the forward.

But with Vincent Tan showing he is not scared to back his new manager with cash, Solskjaer is set to make his own bid to land McCormack, who made 74 appearances for the Welsh side during a two-year spell at the club.

The former Motherwell striker has scored 17 goals this season and the Norwegian manager believes the 27-year-old can add instant firepower to a side that are currently bottom of the Premier League on goal difference.

After just one victory in their last 12 league matches, Cardiff are 10/11 second favourites for the drop but stealing McCormack from under the noses of relegation rivals West Ham, who are 8/5 to drop down to the Championship, would be a real coup for Solskjaer’s squad.

The Cardiff City Stadium outfit are 4/5 with Ladbrokes to turn their current fortunes around and stay in the English top flight and a move for former player McCormack, who scored 25 goals during his first spell at the club, would certainly help their survival chances.

The former Rangers forward was a hit with the fans in the Welsh capital after firing 24 goals to finish as the clubs top scorer during the 2008/09 season and a fruitful reunion could be just what Solskjaer’s side require to secure top flight football for another season.
