Solskjaer plotting Cardiff bid for Bundesliga striker

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks set to continue his January shopping spree at new club Cardiff City with a move for Stuttgart striker Mohammed Abdellaoue.

The reports come just a day after it was reported that the Welsh club was set to swap striker Peter Odemwingie for Stoke City outcast Kenwyne Jones in a bid to enhance their ailing attack.

Cardiff are the 10/11 second-favourites for the drop having won just one of their last 12 Premier League games in a run that has already seen manager Malkay Mackay sacked, with his replacement Solskjaer under pressure to turnaround the fortunes of a team bottom of the Premier League.

If the former Manchester United goalscorer is to do that, then he will need to improve the club’s goalscoring record, with the team managing just 17 top-flight goals this term – the lowest of any side in the Premier League.

Cardiff have already recruited reinforcements in the form of Jones and former Molde man Magnus Wolff Eikrem but Solsjaer could be set to move for another striker before the close of the January transfer window.

One name currently being mentioned is Norway international Mohammed Abdellaoue, who could be available on an initial loan deal with a view to securing a long-term deal provided Cardiff maintain their Premier League status – 4/5 with Ladbrokes.

The 28-year-old first made his name in the Bundesliga with Hannover 96 where he managed an impressive 29 goals in 80 appearances, a record that prompted VFB Stuttgart to move for the forward over the summer.

However since moving to the Swabians the striker has failed to recreate his fine Hannover form, managing just a single goal in nine paltry appearances.

As a former fellow Norway international, Solskjaer is believed to be a long-time admirer of the Oslo-born forward and, provided a fee can be agreed, then a reunion of sorts could be on the cards at the Cardiff City Stadium.
