A Leicester City-supporting student has called it a day and cashed out his £2 bet on the Foxes winning the Premier League this year for a cool £1,600.

Nathan Finlow, 20, of Leicester, decided to take the money and run following Leicester’s 2-2 draw with West Brom this week.

The Foxes remain firmly in the mix for the title, but with Tottenham, Arsenal and Man City still in the hunt, it’s a nervous time for anybody who is still holding out on Claudio Ranieri’s men pulling off one of football’s biggest underdog stories.

Finlow explained: “I was going to hold out but following the late equaliser against West Brom I thought I should just take the money and run.

Lifelong City fan Finlow placed the bet at the start of the season after student friends joked Leicester would be more likely to finish bottom than top of the table following their appointment of Claudio Ranieri.

“I’m still hopeful that we win the league and we gave it everything against the Baggies, but we could just be unlucky along the way.”

The film studies student added that while the sensible thing to do would be to pay off student debt, he is already saving the money to follow City in Europe next season: “I should really pay off some student debts but we’re guaranteed to be in Europe next season so I can’t turn down a once in a lifetime experience like that.”

Finlow wasn’t the only man to call it quits after the Foxes draw, with another Ladbrokes customer cashing out his £20 pre-season stake for a tidy £16,000 despite a potential £100,000 on offer should Leicester pull off an incredible surprise.

Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: “We’re surprised that only two Foxes fans have come forward following the Baggies result to cash in their chips. £1,600 is a lot of money for anyone, especially a student so Finlow’s decision could look to be a shrewd one if it funds a Champions League tour next season.”
