A vote of confidence is rarely a good thing for an ailing Premier League manager but new Manchester United boss David Moyes will be delighted to have received the backing of star striker Robin van Persie.
United have struggled under the former Everton boss and needed a 2-0 league win over Swansea last time out to avoid a fourth straight loss for the first time since 1961.
The struggle sees United languishing in 7th place in the Premier League, some 11 points behind leaders Arsenal, but Dutch ace Van Persie has called on United’s players and fans to give the Scot time to turn things around.
In an interview with The Guardian the former Arsenal striker said: “I don’t think people … understand that they have to give him a little bit more time, and I am talking about fans or even us.
“He will get that time and everyone is convinced that we will change things sooner than later.”
That RVP has publicly backed Sir Alex Ferguson’s replacement will please many a United fan, with reports emerging earlier this season of a rift between the pair.
It is said that the forward is unhappy with the intensity Moyes expects during his training sessions.
However, the comments suggest all is fine between the two, with the attacker poised to return to action in the coming weeks to boost United’s hopes of finishing in the top four – something they are priced at 9/4 to achieve.
The visitors will be without RVP and fellow striker Wayne Rooney, but with Danny Welbeck in decent form, Ladbrokes’ money back if both teams score offer looks certain to be activated.
