Blackburn Rovers have so far delighted their fans by resisting Hull City’s attempts to pluck star striker Jordan Rhodes from their midst, but the transfer tale might yet have a twist.

According to the Daily Mail, the 24-year-old is ready to hand in a transfer request in order to try and push through a move to the Premier League.

Rhodes, who has scored once in four league outings so far this term, apparently views Hull’s advances as his best chance of making the step up to the English top-flight in the near future.

Rovers are 10/3 to win promotion this season and currently sit 10th in the Championship having taken seven points from their first four matches.

The Tigers have already reportedly offered £10m plus Alex Bruce to secure the striker, a sizeable fee even in a summer where Ross McCormack has moved for £11m, but one Blackburn have so far resisted.

Rhodes looks ready to step up a division, as the Scotland international has bagged 53 goals in 93 league appearances since moving to Blackburn in 2012.

That followed several prolific seasons at Huddersfield Town, where the 24-year-old notched 40 goals in 45 matches in all competitions in his final full campaign.

Having seen less impressive second-tier forwards like Leonardo Ulloa, Marvin Sordell and Lukas Jutkiewicz join Premier League clubs this summer, it’s not surprising Rhodes is itching to have a crack at the top-flight.

Steve Bruce has cash in his pocket at the KC Stadium having turned a £5m profit on Shane Long in six months after the Irishman moved to Southampton for £12m.

Hull are aiming to overturn a 1-0 deficit against Sporting Lokeren in their next match, the second-leg of their Europa league play-off.

Bruce’s side are 9/20 to beat the Belgian club at the KC Stadium, where they will try to secure a place in the competition proper for the first time in their history.
