Newcastle United are on the search for another striker to join the Toon ranks but look set to miss out on last season’s loan-star Loic Remy with the Frenchman seemingly favouring a stay in London with Queens Park Rangers.
Rs manager Harry Redknapp revealed the news, stating: “He (Remy) didn’t want to go back to Newcastle which is a massive club, so unless it is a club in the top seven I don’t think he’ll go.”
The Magpies have already recruited Emmanuel Riviere, Facundo Ferreyra and Ayoze Perez this summer but with Alan Pardew signalling his intention to pursue the recruitment of a fourth striker earlier this week, we look at the four potential candidates for a St James’ Park switch.
Bas Dost – Wolfsburg
Previously linked with a move to the north east, Dost re-emerged as a potential target for Newcastle earlier this week. The Dutchman was the top scorer in the Eredivisie two seasons ago and while he boasts a solid record atWolfsburg, the arrival of Nicklas Bendtner could see him pushed out.
Connor Wickham – Sunderland
Black Cats fans will be praying that this rumour stays just that, but with Wickham entering the final year of his contract and reportedly keen to leave, Sunderland boss Gustavo Poyet may be tempted to take the money and run with Newcastle happy to shell out for the Englishman
Alexandre Lacazette – Lyon
The Ligue 1 scoring sensation previously signalled his desire to remain with Lyon for another year but, after a dismal defeat to Toulouse, he may just be having second thoughts. The French side, meanwhile, could be open to a move, provided Newcastle stump up the reported £16m asking price.
Abel Hernandez – Palermo
Prolific for his Italian employers in Serie B last season, Hernandez has previously spoken of his ‘dream’ of one day turning out for the Magpies. Likely to be a cheaper option than Wickham or Lacazette, the price tag attached to the Uruguayan could make him Mike Ashley’s prime target of the four.
