Barely a week goes by where Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko isn’t linked to a summer move away from the Etihad Stadium, with Inter Milan the club seemingly heading the queue to snap him up according to most reports.

One of the main reasons for this constant speculation being that the 28-year-old Bosnian international is heading into the final year of his contract with the 4/5 title favourites.

However, despite being viewed by some as the third-choice centre-forward at the Etihad, there are some pretty fundamental reasons why Manuel Pellegrini should think twice before cashing in.

He scores more goals than the majority of Premier League strikers

Most Premier League managers would chew their own arm off to have a striker who has racked up 40 top-flight goals in 100 appearances, especially as 44 of those appearances came as a substitute.

This season’s tally of 10 league goals from only 16 starts is the third campaign in a row that Dzeko has hit double figures for the Citizens.

He scores goals in big games and in all competitions

You only have to look his latest brace in the Manchester derby for a flavour of his big-game mentality.

Of the current top-four, Chelsea are the only side he is yet to register against for the Citizens, while he’s been the scourge of Tottenham since arriving in January 2011, scoring six times against the Londoners.

Dzeko managed to register three goals in just four Champions League outings this season and has also scored in every domestic competition on his way to 20 goals in 2013/14 thus far.

He is very rarely injured unlike Sergio Aguero

Although Aguero is the undisputed hero of the Etihad and still the most prolific front man on the club’s books, the Argentine has regularly succumbed to injuries during his time in England.

During his three-and-half seasons in sky-blue, Dzeko has barely spent any time on the physio table, having racked up 146 appearances during that time.
