Reports from Spain suggest Real Madrid will hawk out Mesut Ozil in their attempts to recoup some of the £86m fortune being splashed on Gareth Bale.

Manchester United have been trying in vain to procure the services of a world class centre midfielder all summer, but now it seems David Moyes’ wishes could be granted courtesy of events unfolding in the Spanish capital.

With Bale already in Madrid to thrash out the final details of his record-breaking transfer from Tottenham, Real president Florentino Perez is switching his attentions to offloading some of the current squad.

Even for transfer bullies Madrid, the club must attempt to offset such a huge expenditure and German international Ozil is one of those on the payroll Perez is happy to pawn.

This will be sweet music to the ears of Moyes, whose only minor blemish on his infant tenure to date has been his inability to bring a big name signing to Old Trafford, after his very public pursuits of Cesc Fabregas and earlier Thiago Alcantara fizzled out.

Ozil is a player very much in the mould of the aforementioned duo and appears tailor made to fill the creative void which was so obviously lacking in United’s early season stalemate with Chelsea.

If Moyes and United are to stop the other pretenders from stealing their crown, a quest currently being rated at 11/4, then landing a player of Ozil’s ability would go a long way to aiding that challenge.

Ozil is a classic number 10, who can see a killer pass from off a main striker and could well be the answer to United’s prayers.

The benefits would also be double pronged, as at the same time it would also free up Wayne Rooney to move back into a centre-forward position which is apparently his main sticking point with remaining at Old Trafford.
