Manchester City may have just won their second Premier League title in three years, but it doesn’t look like they’re in for a serene summer as far as their star players are concerned.
Failing to deliver Yaya Toure the birthday shindig he so desperately craved has left the Ivorian clamouring for a move to Paris Saint-Germain in the off season, while Sergio Aguero’s future is coming into question as another European powerhouse ready a bid for his services.
Real Madrid had been thought to have Liverpool’s Luis Suarez as their top striking target this summer. But as the Uruguayan has been quite vocal over his desire to stay at Anfield next season and help their title bid, which Ladbrokes rate as a 11/2 chance, Los Blancos have had to avert their gaze.
They haven’t moved the crosshairs of their transfer rifle too far from the original target, though, as they are reportedly readying a £60m bid for Aguero.
Madrid’s current first-choice striker, Karim Benzema, has never been the most loved player at the Bernabeu, despite enjoying a prolific record for the Champions League winners over the course of his Spanish career.
A host of Premier League clubs – including Arsenal and Chelsea – have been linked with a move for the French forward and should Carlo Ancelotti decide to let the striker go, then Aguero will be the man the decorated boss moves for.
The Argentine’s goals have been integral to City’s two league title triumphs, while also helping them land the League Cup final earlier in the season.
Naturally, the Etihad-based club have come to value the former Atletico Madrid striker’s contributions and it could be that City will hold out for more than the £60m quoted before they accept any offers.
But with sources close to the player claiming that he’d be open to a switch despite his history with the Madrid rivals, it may be difficult to keep hold of him.
