Queens Park Rangers could be in danger of losing one of their best Premier League performers this season whether they stay up or not – but it may not be the one you thought.
Charlie Austin has been linked with plenty of other top-flight sides having scored 14 goals in the top-flight so far this term but the 25-year-old is not the one being tracked by Chelsea.
That honour, instead, goes to goalkeeper Robert Green, with EatSleepSport claiming that the Rangers no.1 has been identified as a possible summer target.
But before anyone gets any ideas about the former England international usurping Thibaut Courtois as the first choice keeper at Stamford Bridge they should think again.
Instead, Green may be the man to replace Petr Cech as back-up to the Belgian wonderkid having put in a series of impressive displays for the Loftus Road club this season.
Jose Mourinho has already admitted he is resigned to losing the Czech goalkeeper this summer, with the former Blues favourite likely to leave Stamford Bridge in search of first team football.
“He will make his decision and, when he makes it, he’s very mature about making what he feels is the best decision for him and his future,” the Special One told The Express after last weekend’s League Cup final victory over Tottenham.
With the 32-year-old likely to command a significant transfer fee in the event of a Chelsea departure, Mourinho could opt to pick up Green for what would likely be a bargain price.
Now 35 and already making headway into the world of punditry with the BBC and BT Sport, Green could welcome the chance to earn a significant wage at Stamford Bridge and help Courtois hone his skills at the club.
For the time being, however, the QPR goalkeeper will be determined to continue his fine form against Spurs this weekend with the two London clubs the only teams in the Premier League in action this Saturday.
