Brede Hangeland may not be the only fresh defensive face in the Selhurst Park dressing room when the new season gets going, if Crystal Palace boss Tony Pulis pulls off a successful raid on his old club.

Reports on the grapevine suggest Pulis is lining up a bid for Potters utility man Marc Wilson.

The baseball-cap clad Welshman signed Wilson to Stoke from Portsmouth in 2010 and is keen to sign him up a second time because of his versatility.

The 26-year-old is left-footed and can cover that side of defence, while hes more regular used as a centre-back and can even ply his trade as a holding midfielder.

Having overlooked previous first-choice Dean Moxey to employ right-sided Joel Ward at left full-back for the vast majority after taking over last season, Pulis certainly needs to strengthen on that side of the pitch.

Moxey, joins fellow left-back Jonathan Parr and centre-back Danny Gabbidon on the Selhurst Park exit train as Pulis looks to reshape his squad for the coming campaign.

Meanwhile, in the centre of the pitch there is also call for reinforcements for first-choice defensive midfield lynchpin Mile Jedinak who starred for Australia in the recent World Cup finals.

Last seasons main understudy, Kagisho Dikgacoi, has since upped sticks and left for Championship title favourites Cardiff after a bit-part role at the Eagles last season.

Unfortunately for Pulis, his successor at the Britannia Stadium is also thought to be an admirer of Wilsons so a decent-sized fee may be needed to get Mark Hughes to agree to the sale.

After finishing 11th last season Palace have been handed a thorny-looking fixture to start proceedings at Arsenal, where the Eagles are 9/1 to take all three points.
