The new Premier League season is almost upon us, so it’s time to think about how the upcoming campaign will shake out.
In the build-up to the new season we’re profiling each of the 20 top-flight clubs, from reigning champions Chelsea to Premier League new boys Brighton & Hove Albion.
Our next team in the spotlight is Manchester City…
Talk about flexing your financial muscle. Manchester City spent more than £100m on full-backs this summer!
Then there’s the arrivals of Bernardo Silva and Ederson Moraes, so it’s no wonder Pep Guardiola’s side are 9/5 title favourites.
Plenty of players have gone too, but few will be massively missed at the Etihad, save for perhaps Pablo Zabaleta’s warrior spirit.
It all means this Man City side look devilishly good, and could pulverise teams this season.
We can expect big things from Gabriel Jesus too, as the Brazilian wonderkid embarks on his first full season in England.
And in Kevin de Bruyne, Leroy Sane, David Silva and Raheem Sterling, City boast some of the most talented forwards in the country.
All in all, it adds up to one mighty squad, and anything less than a title success this season will have to be judged as a disappointment.
Manchester City – 2017-18
Key arrivals: Bernardo Silva, Kyle Walker
Key departures: None
Man to watch: Gabriel Jesus
Title odds: 9/5
Best bet: To win the league @ 9/5
We say: Where do you start? This is possibly the strongest Manchester City team ever assembled. City’s only weakness could lie in central defence, but with so much pace and power to attack opponents with, that shouldn’t prove a problem. Expect plenty of goals – and success – this season.
