The new Premier League season begins on Friday, so it’s time to think about how the upcoming campaign will shake out.

In the build-up to the new season we’re profiling each of the 20 top-flight clubs, from Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City to Premier League new boys Brighton & Hove Albion.

Our next team in the spotlight is Tottenham Hotspur…

Last season was another case of so near and yet so far for Spurs.

The North Londoners were widely regarded as the best team to watch in the Premier League, but still lost out on the title to Chelsea by seven points.

However, the upcoming campaign could well see an end to Spurs’ year-on-year progress.

Although the Lilywhites have arguably the best first XI in the league, their lack of strength in depth is a worry.

No new arrivals and the departure of Kyle Walker, accompanied by a worrying injury to new first choice right-back Kieran Tripper, only exacerbate the issue.

Manager Mauricio Pochettino will once again put faith in youth and expect the likes of Harry Winks and Kyle Walker-Peters to step up to the plate.

Reliance will of course fall on star trio Dele Alli, Christian Eriksen and Harry Kane if Spurs are to launch an assault on the top of the Premier League for the third consecutive season.

One thing that could prove decisive is Tottenham’s temporary move to Wembley Stadium.

The North Londoners were literally unbeatable at White Hart Lane, picking up 53 points from 59 available and winning 17 games out of 19.

While the Wembley tenancy may boost club coffers, it will likely have a detrimental impact on Spurs’ crucial home form.

Tottenham Hotspur – 2017-18

Key arrivals: None

Key departures: Kyle Walker

Man to watch: Harry Kane

Title odds: 10/1

Best bet: Top London Club @ 7/2

We say: While we still think Spurs have one of the best first XIs in the league, their lack of recruitment could prove fatal for any title ambitions. All of their fellow major rivals have strengthened and it’ll take a special effort to repeat last year’s near miss. Stabilisation and a top four finish should be the aim for the North Londoners this season.
