Arsenal’s decision to launch a deal for Leicester City’s Jamie Vardy saw social media explode over the weekend, but according to today’s Ladbrokes Twitter poll, the striker’s potential impact will prove to be more like Nicklas Bendtner than Thierry Henry should he sign for the Gunners.
The England international is yet to make a decision on where his future lies, having netted a stunning 24 goals last season en route to the Premier League title with the Foxes.
We asked our Twitter followers today just who could Vardy emulate at the Emirates, should he ditch the blue of Leicester for the red and white of Arsenal?
It seems Tweeters weren’t feeling too confident of how the partnership might go, with 54 per cent saying the Englishman will evoke memories of Danish striker Nicklas Bendtner.
The Dane scored 47 times in 171 appearances for the Gunners, but failed to ever really become more than a bit-part player.
The same could soon be said for Theo Walcott, who was voted second in today’s poll with 21 per cent.
Walcott could find himself replaced by Vardy this summer, but a fifth of you say the Leicester man will only reproduce Walcott’s sporadic displays of talent.
Some 16 per cent of you said Vardy can be Henry 2.0 at the Emirates, which is quite a pair of shoes to fill, with nine per cent saying the forward will best emulate Olivier Giroud.
With a decision from the forward expected sooner rather than later, it seems we won’t have long to find out if Vardy will become a Gooner next year.
