Despite denying they would be signing anyone this January, Manchester City have done some business – they’ve signed the experienced David Pizarro on loan from Serie A side Roma.
Despite City hardly being short of midfield options, the signing of Pizarro gives them another experienced head as they continue to challenge for the Premier League title and, rather less importantly, the Europa League.
The Chilean won the Serie A title with Inter Milan back in 2006 and will provide excellent back-up to the likes of Yaya Toure who has performed so well for the Citizens this season.
It may not be quite as exciting as many of the other signings City have made over recent seasons, but it shows how much Mancini values experience as we head into the closing months of the Premier League title race.
City currently lead Manchester United at the summit of the English top tier and all the odds point to the Eastlands side staying there until the final whistle on the final day.
City are 4/9 to win the Premier League and, in the closing weeks when things get tight and tense, players with the experience of Pizarro will be vital to them if they are to fend off United and the chasing pack.
