Never a shrinking violet on social media regarding his beloved Arsenal, America’s new chat show guru Piers Morgan, may just have hit the nail on the head with his latest claims.

As the Gunners came up short once again in their faltering pursuit of the Premier League title by drawing 0-0 with Manchester United, the celebrity Gooner touched upon some pretty valid points despite tweeting in the heat of the moment.

By failing to capitalise on dropped points by Chelsea a day previously and in the wake of their drubbing at Anfield a few days earlier, Arsenal have now drifted right out to 7/1 to claim the title.

But worse than that, according to the former Britain’s Got Talent judge, with Liverpool and Totteham both collecting maximum points again he believes Arsenal are now in real danger of being beaten to a top-four slot – quoted at 6/1 with Ladbrokes after their Anfield pasting.

Two of Morgan’s tweets exclaimed: “Ozil was superb today, and Szczesny saved us. But Giroud was woeful, as he is in almost every big game. He’s just too slow. #afc”

“Wenger’s failure to buy a striker may well mean we don’t end up in Top4. Liverpool and Spurs both looking stronger all the time. #afc”

Although Arsenal’s French striker remains their top striker in the Premier League with 10, Olivier Giroud had a poor night in front of goal and like Morgan says this follows a pattern in the top-flight.

One goal against Tottenham remains Giroud’s only strike against any of the current top-six so far this season, while he does look cumbersome when the pace gets as frenetic as it does in these huge games.

When you look at Liverpool’s combined 39 league goals from their strikers, Arsene Wenger’s inability to replenish his side’s centre-forward stocks looks like it will ultimately prove very costly.

This point is rammed home by the fact Aaron Ramsey – who is their next highest league scorer with eight – is set to miss another month on the sidelines.
