Crystal Palace have entered the race to sign highly-rated Ipswich Town striker David McGoldrick.

The former Notts County youth player has looked lively for the Tractor Boys in the Championship so far this year and has attracted an £8m bid from the Foxes.

Town manager Mick McCarthy is keen to hang on to the 26-year-old, who has netted 21 goals in 49 games at Portman Road, but with Palace entering the race the money on offer could prove too tempting.

The Eagles are already on the brink of breaking their club transfer record after agreeing a £7m+ deal for Wigan’s James McArthur but his status as the most expensive player at Selhurst Park will be short-lived if Neil Warnock is successful in his pursuit of McGoldrick.

Palace will need to at least match Leicester’s bid for the player if a deal is to be struck but the Foxes hold an ace up their sleeve in knowing that the Eagles are also keen on their own Chris Woods.

Woods would be allowed to leave the King Power Stadium if Nigel Pearson can lure McGoldrick away from Ipswich in a move that would prove far cheaper for the south Londoners.

Palace are currently priced at 8/5 for relegation but that price could be substantially longer at the close of business should the likes of McArthur and McGoldrick arrive.
