Odds suggest Messi to Man City is more than just a pipe dream

Lionel Messi could one day reunite with old boss Pep Guardiola, according to the latest odds. Our traders have priced the Argentine up at just 5/4 to work under the Spanish boss again, following comments in the build-up to tonight’s Champions League tie between Barcelona and Manchester City.

Speaking about Messi, Guardiola said “In the case of Leo, I hope he plays and finishes his career here [in Barcelona], but maybe one day he will want to go and play somewhere else.

“Maybe he wants to speak English and live somewhere else. If he decided that, there would be a list of six, seven, eight clubs, but Leo will decide where he goes.”

And should the five-time Ballon d’Or winner decide to leave his boyhood club, it’s 6/4 he opts for a Premier League move.

A move to the Far East at any stage in Messi’s career looks unlikely at 16/1, while there’s a 7/1 chance he follows the likes of Frank Lampard, Andrea Pirlo and Steven Gerrard to the MLS.

Guardiola takes his new side to his old stumping ground tonight, as Barcelona welcome Man City to the Camp Nou.

While the visitors are 5/1 to add three more points to their Champions League tally, Messi is 10/3 to open the scoring.

A Ladbrokes spokesperson said: “Messi may be good, but could he do it on a cold, rainy night in Stoke?  The odds suggest we may find out sooner rather than later.”
