November is a time when football fans are treated to fireworks in the Premier League. There have been five instances in this month – which is more than in any other – where a single team has put seven goals or more past an opponent. Could there be another drubbing in store this weekend?

Manchester United entertain Arsenal and would gladly take a repeat of the 8-2 massacre that occurred in August last year, while Tottenham welcome Wigan to White Hart Lane; a side who they beat 9-1 in November 2009. Ladbrokes are offering 100/1 for Spurs to knock the same number of goals in, but without conceding this time, while 500/1 says the scoreline at Old Trafford will replicate last season’s curve ball.

Arsenal are in considerably better shape this year than what they were last so it’s tough to imagine United getting so much change out of them. A United battering is easy to imagine, but 8 goals is probably a bridge too far.

Man United to win the game with three or more goals scored in the contest is very well-priced at 7/5, whereas the ball to hit the back of the net over 5.5 times pays out at 8/1. Both are feasible given the nature and form of both sides; the latter especially could be worth a few quid.

Wigan, on the other hand, are so unpredictable that they could easily find themselves on the wrong end of another morale-shattering defeat. In the 9-1 loss to Spurs they shipped a jaw-dropping eight goals in the second half after going in a goal down at the break.

Jermain Defoe scored a seven-minute hat-trick that day on his way to grabbing five goals; he’s 14/1 to claim the match ball again here.

Andre Villas-Boas’ men have not scored more than three goals in a single game this term and had notched five goals on two separate occasions prior to slamming nine past Wigan, but hauls of seven plus for one side are such a rarity that the form book can do little to indicate when one is going to occur.

Spurs to win the match by four goals or more pays out handsomely at 15/2, while for there to be over 5.5 scored in the game a similar price of 7/1 is on offer.
