“Mustafi? We hope it will be done. He is one of a number of players we are looking at. Negotiations are ongoing.”
Those were the words of Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger earlier this week, and with just six days to go until the transfer window closes, it finally looks like he’ll add a couple of big names to his teamsheet, much to the delight (and relief!) of Gunners fans.
Valencia defender Shkodran Mustafi has been the subject of a summer long transfer saga but it finally looks to be drawing to a close with the World Cup winner now just 2/1 to join up with fellow compatriots Mesut Ozil, Per Mertesacker and Serge Gnabry.
And this tweet from Sky Sports News’ Kaveh Solhekol will only add fuel to an already-blazing fire…
Mustafi & agent met Valencia officials yesterday. Told he can leave if adequate offer made. Suggestion Arsenal deal could be agreed at £26m

But perhaps what’s even more exciting for Arsenal fans is the latest striker to be linked with a move to the Emirates, 27-year-old Lucas Perez.
The Deportivo la Coruna striker was in blistering form last campaign, netting an incredible 17 league goals as well as providing his teammates with 11 assists.
So what else do we know about the latest man linked with a move to North London?
His speed is frightening, his ball control is exactly what you’d expect from a Spanish player, he can play out wide although he prefers to play in a more central role and his ability to finish would be more than welcomed by by Arsenal fans.
In short, he ticks all the boxes for Wenger.
The Suarez-esque forward had been linked with a move to Barcelona earlier this summer – a side who Perez grabbed a goal against last year – but interest has since died down from the La Liga champions.
Everton were also close to signing the Spaniard but reports today are suggesting that Arsenal may have pipped their Premier League rivals to the post for a rumoured fee of £17m.
Could both Mustafi and Perez be in Saturday’s starting line-up against Watford? We’ll have to wait and see.
The Gunners are 3/4 to pick up their first three points of the season away at Vicarage Road.
