Chelsea’s Champions League hero, Demba Ba, could be set for a sensational summer switch back to Newcastle United – the club the Blues first purchased the Senegalese forward from.
The 28-year-old may be the man of the moment following his late goal for Jose Mourinho’s team against Paris Saint-Germain in midweek – a strike that ensured the team progressed to the semi-finals of the Champions League – but he is reportedly frustrated at a lack of first-team opportunities.
Mourinho, meanwhile, has made no secret of his desire to recruit a new striker to the club, with Edinson Cavani and Diego Costa among the names linked with a move to the Londoners.
That could pave the way for Ba’s departure, with the forward believed to be keen on a Premier League stay, despite the difficulties at Chelsea.
Newcastle United represents one potential destination for the 28-year-old, who first caught the attention of the Pensioners after scoring 29 goals in just 54 appearances for the north-east club.
The Magpies may be open to a transfer too, amid reports that the on-loan Loic Remy could be considering a move back to London, with Tottenham believed to be among the teams currently courting the Frenchman ahead of a summer bid.
Ba’s return to Newcastle would also go some way to appeasing fans who have grown increasingly frustrated at the lack of ambition shown by the black-and-whites, who look likely to finish in the Premier League’s top 10, but little else.
The Senegalese star could be keen on completing a deal, which would allow him to return to the club where he enjoyed some of the best form of his career.
And his arrival looks set to prompt additional departures, with Papiss Cisse leading the list of potential summer departures.
