Alan Pardew has boosted his striking options after Newcastle won the race to sign Shakhtar Donetsk striker Facundo Ferreyra, according to Goal.com.
The Argentine striker was a target for a number of clubs around Europe, including Premier League rivals West Ham, Sunderland and QPR but he has chosen to head to thenorth-east.
The Toon Army have agreed a 1.6m loan fee with the Ukrainian club with the option to make the deal permanent at the end of the season for a further 6.4m.
Newcastle, who are 8/11 with Ladbrokes to finish as the topnorth-eastclub, are hoping to finalise the deal in the coming days.
It is thoughtFerreyra wasswayed after speaking to Newcastle captain Fabio Coloccini who convinced his fellow countryman to join him at St James Park.
After just one season at Shakhtar, the 23-year-old, who made 12 appearances for Argentinas under-20 side, has become unsettled with the ongoing violent unrest in eastern Ukraine.
The former Velez Sarsfield star, who fired six goals in 13 appearances for Shakhtar, will be an excellent addition to Pardews squad but the Magpies are targeting further reinforcements before the close of the transfer window.
LyonsAlexandre Lacazette has been constantly linked with a move to Tyneside while the club are also exploring Loic Remys situation following the collapse of his move to Liverpool.
Remy scored 14 goals while on loan at St James Park last season and Pardew has revealed he is interested in bringing the French international back to the club.
“It’s a straightforward deal if Loic and QPR decide to do business with us,” Pardew told BBC Newcastle.
“The results speak for themselves, the fans loved him and I think it’s a great place for him personally.
Its been a busy summer for Newcastle, who are 10/11 for a top10finish in the Premier League, so far with Pardew bringing in forwards Ayoze Perez, Emmanuel Riviere, midfielders Jack Colback, Remy Cabella and Siem De Jong plus defender Daryl Janmaat.
But if Pardew can add even more firepower to his squad the club could be setting their sights even higher, with a top six finish available at odds of 12/1.
