Newcastle United mark their return to the Premier League with a tough-looking fixture against last season’s runners-up, Tottenham Hotspur.
The Magpies really couldn’t have asked for a more difficult fixture to open up with at home considering the quality at Spurs’ disposal.
Rafa Benitez has a job on his hands to keep the Geordies safe this year with a squad that doesn’t exactly scream ‘Premier League-quality’.
They’re a pretty large 4/1 to win, which is representative of just how strong everyone now views the London club.
Dwight Gayle looks like he’s struggling for the home side so Alexander Mitrovic will probably start up top. It’s in defence, though, where Newcastle seem to be a little weak.
Ciaran Clark, Javier Manquillo, Paul Dummett and Florian Lejeune will have their work cut out against Harry Kane, Dele Alli and co.
Mauricio Pochettino has refrained from meddling too much with his squad, which means Spurs will go into this one, once again, a settled side.
At 4/6, they’re a little short to back outright considering it is the opening day, but they really should be much too good for this Newcastle side.
They have an impressive record at St. James’ Park, too, with two wins in their last three visits.
Harry Kane will start up top and, having won the Golden Boot for the last two seasons, will be looking to make it a hat trick.
With a defensive unit to rival some of the best teams in Europe, we reckon a 15/8 shot on the Londoners winning to nil is another nice wager.
