David Moyes has earmarked Florentin Pogba – Paul’s older brother – as a Deadline Day target for Sunderland.

Reports in the press today are linking the Scot with a £6.5m move for the St Etienne defender, as the future of current Black Cats star Lamine Kone remains to be resolved.

Pogba has been with St Etienne since 2012, and has proved a rock at the heart of Les Verts’ back-line, helping the club land successive top six finishes in Ligue 1.

Moyes has already signed defenders Donald Love and Paddy McNair from Manchester United, and a move for Pogba could be seen as a precaution in case Kone departs.

Everton are known to be very keen on the 27-year-old Frenchman, who shone for the Black Cats after joining in January.

But Sunderland have been unwilling to sell until a suitable replacement has been found, and Pogba may well be that replacement.

Should that prove to be the case, it could be some sensible transfer activity from the Wearsiders, with Everton reportedly ready to pay upwards of £20m for the Parisian.

Sunderland are yet to win this season, and after the international break, and in a twist of fate, could face up against Kone on their return to domestic duties.

The Black Cats will welcome Everton on Monday 12 September, and there’s an increasing change Sunderland could face their current star, and they’ll be hoping Pogba is ready to fill those boots.
