Jose Mourinho is kicking his mind-game tactics into overdrive as the season starts to ebb towards the business end, but won’t need too many laced words to overcome Pepe Mel’s struggling West Brom side.

There’s been talk of everything from horses to calculators as the Portuguese manager does mental battle with Manchester City’s Manuel Pellegrini in the title race, but can give those barbs a rest as he takes his Chelsea side to the Hawthorns rated as 1/2 favourites for the win.

Verbal jabs and jibes are therefore completely unwarranted in overcoming West Brom, who find themselves as lengthy 6/1-shots to claim three points, with a draw given a similarly outside chance at 3s.

West Brom have actually secured three points over the Blues in their last two games with them at home, but come into this match having not beaten anybody in the last five attempts and face a Chelsea side enjoying their best run by far in this season’s top-flight.

The Stamford Bridge mob have remained unbeaten in the last 10 league games, easily their longest run of the campaign, and have claimed victory in all but two of those outings.

Add to this their much-expected defensive solidity under Mourinho – they’ve claimed seven clean sheets in that run of 10 – and it all boils down to a 29/20-rated win to nil for Mourinho’s men.

Considering six of those snuff-outs have gone hand-in-hand with Chelsea victories, the price on them adding another to the list looks too good to refuse. The fact that this particular bet would have landed in all three of the west London club’s last away forays goes a long way to swelling the confidence here too.

West Brom go some distance to helping the bet too, as their one win in the last eight Hawthorns outing attests.
