Michael Owen is odds-on to ply his trade at Stoke City next season according to Ladbrokes.
The striker is currently one of the most high profile free agents after Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson decided not to renew his contract after yet another injury disrupted season at Old Trafford.
There have been rumours linking him with a move to the Championship but Owen himself has ruled that out, saying he still feels he can do a job in the Premier League.
He is 1/2 to move to the Britannia Stadium next and that is where all the money has so far gone. It would make sense for the player who will be able to stay close to his family home and his increasingly successful stables.
However, only this morning, Owen was on Twitter saying he’s still weighing up his options and there is a sense he may be hoping for a move to a more glamorous club.
Aston Villa and former club Liverpool are joint 6/1second favourites as are Wigan Athletic.
He’s also 7/2 to announce this summer that he is hanging up his boots – and that bet may be worth some serious consideration.
He’s struggled with injuries for several years now and with his horse racing business providing him with plenty of exciting opportunities, there is every chance he could leave the game to concentrate on that.
For those who think next season may prove to be his last hurrah though, he can be backed at 100/1 to win the Premier League Golden Boot.
Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: “All the money so far has been for Owen to go to Stoke. Whilst we can’t rule out other Premier League clubs, retirement seems a more likely option.”
