A new name has been added to the plethora of forwards linked with a move to Arsenal, with Nuremburg youngster Josip Drmic currently doing the rumour rounds regarding a summer switch to the Emirates.

The Gunners – who are 6/4 favourites to beat neighbours Tottenham for the fifth time in six attempts next time out at White Hart Lane – are currently counting the cost of missing out on their trio of pre-season forward targets.

Luis Suarez, Gonzalo Higuain and Karim Benzema were all on Arsene Wenger’s radar last summer and the Frenchman must take most of the blame for his club’s current malaise, having failed to add to his striking ranks beyond former Auxerre youngster Yaya Sanogo.

Arsenal have won just four of their last 10 matches, losing to Liverpool (badly) and Stoke during that run while also going out of the Champions League following a comprehensive two-leg beating by Bayern Munich.

Ladbrokes have them out to 20/1 to win the league for the first time in a decade come May, believing their best chance of a trophy this year by far is in the FA Cup at 1/2, but Wenger has hinted that he won’t make the same mistakes when the transfer window reopens this June.

Real Madrid man Benzema is still believed to be in the former Monaco and Grampus Eight coach’s thoughts and rumours that Arsenal will renew their January interest in exciting Schalke forward Julian Draxler won’t go away.

However, rumours abound that Wenger will go for 6ft 2in Nuremburg man Drmic once the campaign ends and the silly season starts.

It’s easy to see why the Gunners hierarchy rate Drmic as the 21-year-old, who’s already made five appearances for World Cup-bound Switzerland, has bagged 11 goals in 23 Bundesliga appearances for Der Club in his first season in Germany.

Six of those strikes have come in his last nine games, which has given Drmic a fighting chance of making Ottmar Hitzfeld’s Rossocrociati squad for Brazil next summer.
