Manchester United have upped their offer from £18m to £20m in their latest attempt to land Arsenal midfielder Samir Nasri.

This Nasri saga was dragging on to become one of the more boring transfer rumours of the summer alongside Cesc Fabregas’s move to Barcelona, but Chelsea’s interest has sparked this move into life.

Both Manchester City and Chelsea are willing to meet Nasri’s wage demands after the Frenchman rejected a £90,000 a week contract at Arsenal, and yesterday Manchester City claimed they had agreed a fee of £19m for Nasri.

There was no word from Arsenal yesterday about Manchester City’s potential offer, but developments this morning suggest the Arsenal board are still open to offers.

Manchester United have already had an £18m offer rejected by Arsenal and Sir Alex Ferguson is hopeful £20m will be enough to seal the deal, but Chelsea are reportedly willing to go up to £22m for the Frenchman.

The Arsenal board are yet to respond to Manchester United’s latest offer but you can guarantee they are enjoying the bidding war that is developing between the three best teams in the Premier League as they look to get the best price for their want-away midfielder.

Arsene Wenger does not want to let Nasri leave but the Frenchman also has his practical head on and is not prepared to see Nasri leave for nothing next summer should he stay at the Emirates for another season.

The ideal outcome for Arsenal would be to see a European club weight in with a bid for Nasri but that seems unlikely and Wenger may have to bite the bullet and let his star midfielder join one of his biggest rivals.

All three teams are capable of meeting the £25m asking price that Arsenal want but whether they want to or not remains to be seen and there is plenty of life left in this Nasri saga yet.
