Currently kicking up a storm at Celtic, Jason Denayer could be good enough to eclipse Vincent Kompany in the future and take Manchester City to the next level.

That is the opinion of Belgium national team legend Lorenzo Staelens, who believes the 19-year-old has the natural ability to become a fixture of the Red Devils starting line-up for years to come.

On loan with the Parkhead giants until the end of the season, Denayer has featured 37 times for the Hoops this term, scoring a solid six goals along the way.

Speaking in quotes published by Manchester Evening News, Staelens warned the Sky Blues that they could face a fight to keep hold of the defender in the near future.

“…when I see the likes of Raphael Varane playing for Real Madrid, Denayer is already at that level and will pass it in no time if he keeps developing,” he said.

“I see him very soon being at a club like Real Madrid.”

Due to return to the Etihad at the end of the season, it could soon be a case of now or never for Manchester City.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side have struggled with the defensive side of their game this season.

Eliaquim Mangala has failed to live up to his price tag while Vincent Kompany has been guilty of some uncharacteristic errors.

Come the start of next season. Denayer may be expecting to finally get a first-team opportunity under the Chilean at Eastlands.

And failure to grant him that could prove a costly mistake.

How their local rivals Manchester United must regret their failure to give more playing time to the likes of Paul Pogba and Gerard Pique in their time.

With both going on to bigger and better things in Italy and Spain, Denayer could be the next big name Premier League fans miss out on seeing more regularly.
