Sir Alex Ferguson has amped up his interest in a second member of the Ince family, almost 24 years after signing his first.
Blackpool sensation Tom Ince, son of Paul, is reportedly his top transfer target for the January transfer window as he bids to reclaim the Premier League crown from neighbours Man City; a feat that they’re priced at 11/10 to achieve.
Ince has established himself as one of the star performers in the Championship since the Tangerines secured his signature from Liverpool, who are also thought to be interested in re-signing him.
However, with the 20-year-old’s contract due to expire in the summer, Blackpool could be tempted to cash in on their prize asset as opposed to losing him for nothing at the end of the season.
The England under-21 star began the campaign in fine form, bagging six goals in as many games as his side cruised to the top of the league and Blackpool’s dependency on him is highlighted by the fact that they have won just one game this season of the six in which he has failed to score.
The clubs’ promotion hopes have been dealt plenty of blows in recent weeks; their league form has curtailed leaving them languishing in mid-table, while Ian Holloway’s change of scenery makes it very difficult to envisage how they’re going to compete at the top end of the division.
These reasons could see Ince looking to make a move and if Man United slap an offer on the table, he’s not likely to turn them down.
Should he make the switch to Old Trafford, this will only douse the flames of speculation surrounding Nani’s impending jaunt through the Red Devils’ exit door with petrol.
Both players are best-suited to playing wide of a front three, where defensive responsibilities are somewhat toned down, but with Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young vying to fill these roles alongside the Portuguese, it seems unlikely Sir Alex would bring in a fourth player just to play in the reserves.
