With Louis van Gaal’s stock rising throughout the World Cup a host of top players are being linked with Manchester United again – despite the absence of Champions League football.

The Red Devils have already added Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera to the squad that underperformed massively last year and reports today suggest at least two more deals are in the offing.

The first concerns Van Gaal’s countryman and perennial United target Wesley Sneijder who has been told he can leave Turkish giants Galatasaray if the price is right.

That price has been set at £16m and Gala president Unal Aysal has said he will not stand in the player’s way if that valuation is met.

The 30-year-old is clearly rated by Van Gaal, who used him in all of Holland’s games in Brazil, and his arrival could spell the end at Old Trafford for the likes of Tom Cleverly and Shinji Kagawa.

United have also been encouraged in their pursuit of Colombia winger Juan Cuadrado after the Fiorentina man appeared less than committed to the La Viola’s cause in a recent interview.

“I don’t know yet what will happen. At this moment I haven’t received any concrete offers from any club,” he told reporters.

“You read a lot of things in the press, but at the moment there is nothing concrete. I’m not in a hurry to decide my future.”

United are as short as 11/2 to win the Premier League this season despite finishing a dismal seventh last term and arrivals of the calibre of Sneijder and Cuadrado will surely see them shorten up to wrestle the crown from noisy neighbours City.

Van Gaal’s first competitive game in charge will be against Swansea at Old Trafford and with the hosts already 4/11 favourites to win the Red Devils look set for a flying start whoever arrives in the summer.
