Manchester United to win 2016-17 Premier League

With Jose Mourinho now installed in the Old Trafford hotseat, the Portuguese is set for a busy summer as he prepares to turn around the fortunes of the once-dominant force in English and European football. For one of his targets however, the Special One may need to move sooner rather than later.

The new Manchester United manager is reportedly keen on bringing Benfica’s Victor Lindelof, who starred for the Aguias en route to the Primeira Liga title this season.

Just 21 years old, Lindelof’s form has also seen him break into his national side, with Sweden naming the 6ft 2in defender in their squad for the upcoming Euros.

United are believed to have offered £20m for Lindelof’s services, but the Portuguese giants are holding on until a £22.3m release clause is met.

The young defender isn’t expected to feature strongly for Sweden in France this summer, having featured only three times so far for his national side.

But should circumstances change and Lindelof plays a blinder against the likes of Italy and Belgium, United will suddenly find themselves fending off a whole host of suitors.

Traditionally, a Mourinho-led team is near-impossible to break down, and the imposing Lindelof has all the hallmarks of a few of Jose’s favourites down the years.

Quick on the ground, strong, and with excellent judgement, the Swede captures the best qualities of the John Terry/Ricardo Carvalho combination so loved by Mourinho in his first Chelsea forays.

Jose could be set to fall victim of his predecessors troubles however, with reports stating  Lindelof is quite happy to stay at Benfica, especially with United unable to offer Champions League football next season.
