He may have played just 110 minutes of professional football, but Nottingham Forest’s Ben Brereton is already attracting interest from both Manchester United and Liverpool, according to reports.

Of course, it’s no coincidence that two of England’s biggest football clubs have started sniffing round the City Ground just days after the 17-year-old scored a last-gasp winner against Aston Villa in the Championship.

Brereton managed to find himself enough space in the Villa box on Saturday evening to pluck the ball out of the air, burying it past Sam Johnstone on the volley.

But while that strike was his first for the Forest senior side, that eye for goal has been a part of the youngster’s game throughout his career.

In fact, the forward netted 17 goals in 21 U23 appearances for the Reds before breaking into the first-team. That tells us his goal at the weekend is a sign of things to come.

And it’s likely plenty more clubs will send scouts to watch Brereton over the coming months, with the striker increasingly looking Premier League bound.

It’s no surprise to see United and Liverpool linked with the striker, who turns 18 in April.

Jurgen Klopp has a habit of putting his faith in youth at Anfield, while the emergence of Marcus Rashford at Old Trafford will likely encourage Jose Mourinho to give more youngsters a chance.

While Forest fans would argue the youngster should stay with the club, it’d be hard for their board to turn down a substantial offer from elsewhere – especially when a fee of around £3m is being thrown around.

It’s likely Brereton will play a huge part in Forest achieving a top-half finish this season. But should he do that, it’ll only increase the chances of him moving on in the summer.
