As they continue the endless search for the next big thing, Manchester City are reportedly eyeing up Lazio’s teenage star Alessandro Rossi.
The 19-year-old has fired in nine goals in just four games for I Biancocelesti’s youth team and a call up to the senior squad is seemingly imminent.
But before a first-team breakthrough puts Rossi on the big stage, Pep Guardiola’s City are looking to steal an early march on other potential suitors.
Speaking to Italian news outlet DiMarzo, Rossi’s agent Fabio Guardabosso said: “There was a talent scout from Man City in the stands this weekend.”
“Rossi is one of the most important European talents of his age group, and over the summer several clubs had already targeted him, but he remained in Rome and doesn’t regret it,” Guardabosso added.
“The interest is flattering, but nothing more. He’s keeping his feet on the ground and has his own objectives, first of all to make his Serie A debut.”
Rossi was twice included in the first-team squad by Lazio boss Fillipo Inzaghi last season, although he remained on the bench on both occasions.
Given the teenager’s form this term however in the youth teams, it seems only a matter of time before he enters the senior fold.
As and when Rossi’ first-team break comes, we can expect plenty more of Europe’s biggest teams to start clamouring over one of the continents brightest young talents.
City’s perfect Premier League start under Guardiola came crashing to an end at the weekend, as they lost 2-0 at Tottenham.
The bookies still make them clear favourites for the title at 10/11.
