Man City and Arsenal rejects should top West Ham’s shopping list

With 37 points on the board thanks to their 2-1 win over Sunderland last time out, West Ham are putting plans in place for next season as their Premier League status is assured.

The 11/2 shots for a top-ten finish are looking at bringing in three to five quality signings over the summer months according to reports, so we’ve taken the liberty of starting their shopping list with four potential buys:

Joleon Lescott

Winston Reid, James Collins and James Tomkins are the Hammers’ main trio in defence, but injury to the New Zealander meant Roger Johnson had to be brought in as cover on loan.

With Lescott clearly available following a season stuck on the Manchester City bench, his expiring contract at the Etihad should make him Sam Allardyce’s number one target.

Nicklas Bendtner

It would feel pretty grubby if a transfer window came and went without the Irons bringing in a new front man and with loanee Marco Boriello unlikely to extend his stay, there is scope for West Ham replenishing their favourite position.

Although a livewire, the Dane has a decent record in England away from Arsenal’s glare and adding him to Andy Carroll and Carlton Cole would make West Ham’s a strike force to fear in the air.

Craig Noone

If there’s one thing Big Sam looks for in his wingers it’s tradition and Cardiff’s Englishman fits that bill.

Similar in style to Stewart Downing’s and Matt Jarvis’ touchline-huggling, dribbling game, Noone could well be picked up on the cheap should the Bluebirds fail in their Premier League survival bid having impressed in the top flight.

Chris Brunt

One thing that West Ham lack is versatility and they can do worse than pick up a utility man of Brunt’s quality.

Like Noone, the Northern Irishman’s Premier League status is far from secure with West Brom and his ability to play in central midfield and on the wings – both of which are positions of need for the Hammers – will certainly appeal.
