Arsenal are reported to have had a bid for France’s highly-rated midfielder Yann M’Vila accepted.
According to the Telegraph, a deal for the 22-year-old is “99 per cent done” as Arsene Wenger continues to add to his squad for next season.
Reports suggest the player will cost in the region of £18million – smashing the Gunners’ current record transfer of £15million which they paid for Andrei Arshavin in 2009.
The defensive midfielder – who currently plays for Rennes – was also being targeted by Inter Milan but the pull of Premier League and Champions League football appears to have made his mind up for him.
However, with Chelsea potentially taking the fourth Champions League spot if they win the competition against Bayern Munich, then bagging third place in the league is the only way for Arsenal to guarantee being amongst the European elite next season.
The Gunners are expected to easily do that though. They are one point ahead of Tottenham Hotspur in fourth and face a mid-table West Bromwich Albion side in their final game.
Arsenal are 4/9 to finish third and return to the Champions League – quite a remarkable achievement considering their dreadful start to the season that saw them win just two of their opening seven games.
Things are shaping up rather well for Arsenal who have already signed Lukas Podolski as they look to get their business done early and avoid the same situation as last term when there was a deadline day rush to bag players.
And the spending looks set to continue with Wenger also thought to be after Blackburn Rovers winger Junior Hoilett and Fulham striker Clint Dempsey, although both of those players will surely be squad members rather than first team regulars.
