Liverpool might end up missing out on their dream of a first English crown in 24 years, but in the market to finish in the Premier League’s top two, the Reds are the stand-out pick of the title contenders.
It’s 6/5 with Ladbrokes that Brendan Rodgers’ mob, who were elevated to second place following their win over Sunderland, hold onto the runners-up birth or indeed win the thing.
Meanwhile, Chelsea and Manchester City – currently in first and third – are allotted odds of 1/3 and 2/13 respectively in the same market.
With Arsenal floundering like a fish out the drink in fourth at 22/1, it’s pretty safe to assume the complexion at the very top of the final Premier League standings will be an arrangement of these three recognised title contenders.
Of the trio, it’s actually title favourites City whose remaining fixtures appear the hardest, not least given trips to the Emirates, Anfield and Goodison Park remain on their season-ending itinerary.
The Citizens do have both their own destiny and a superior goal difference on their side, yet they carry the most pressure to get over the line as they have been touted as favourites all season, with an array of world class talent available.
This bodes well for dark horses Liverpool, who are in the hottest form of the three, having racked up seven consecutive wins ahead of their next home match against Tottenham.
A six-goal swing over Chelsea at this stage could also end up being a critical factor for the Reds as the jostling for position looks set to go down to the wire, plus they are the team who still has to entertain both their rivals.
Basically, it’s anyone’s guess what the final table looks like, but at these odds a punt on Rodgers’ momentum carriers to looks a very decent shout.
