Kenny Dalglish has had a rather colourful time of things in the transfer market this past year – and now he looks set to dabble in the loan market.
With the likes of Stewart Downing and Charlie Adam hardly setting the league alight at the moment, the Daily Mirror is reporting Dalglish is looking to bring in Real Madrid attacking midfielder Esteban Granero on loan until the end of the season.
He may not be the most prolific of goalscorers – he’s hit just four goals in 54 appearances for Real Madrid – but he has a guile and passing ability that has been somewhat missing from Liverpool’s play for large chunks of this season.
The Reds have only the 13th best attack in the Premier League and average just over one goal a game. The addition of Granero would surely lead to a fair few more chances being created.
Whether Andy Carroll would be able to put them away is another matter.
The striker continues to struggle to find his Newcastle United form for Liverpool and has hit just six goals since he joined the Reds almost exactly a year ago.
But, if the likes of Granero and a newly-fit Steven Gerrard start for Liverpool, Carroll will surely start adding to that meagre total before the end of the season.
Dalglish’s men certainly need something to change as they are currently six points behind Chelsea in the final Champions League spot and have a hugely inferior goal difference to the Blues.
Liverpool have drifted to 11/4 to finish in the top four after winning just one of their previous six league games.
However, with the possibility of Granero joining and Luiz Suarez back from suspension in the coming weeks, that may be worth a speculative bet.
