It’s only a matter of time before Barcelona make a move for Liverpool ace Philippe Coutinho. At least, that’s the verdict of former star Rivaldo.
At it’s an opinion our trading team clearly share, too, after cutting odds of a switch to the Nou Camp to just 6/4, the shortest they’ve been for months.
Arriving at Anfield back in January 2013 for £11m from Inter, the Brazilian has since proven to be one of the best pieces of business in modern Premier League history.
Having signed Luis Suarez from the Reds back in 2014 for £69m, it’s thought Barca would have to part with a similar fee for Coutinho’s services, especially as the 24-year-old’s best years are still very much ahead of him.
Liverpool’s position in this year’s Premier League may play a huge role in whether or not Coutinho stays on for the 2017-18 campaign.
Having failed to qualify for the Champions League in each of their last two seasons, another finish outside the top-four may result in the playmaker calling an end to his time on Merseyside.
It’s frightening to think how Barca could line-up with Coutinho in their ranks. The current front-three of Suarez, Neymar and Lionel Messi look unlikely to change any time soon.
But with Andres Iniesta approaching the latter stages of his career (he’ll be 33 by the time next season begins), there’s a potential slot straight in the first-team for the ‘Little Wizard’.
What do fans think? Will Liverpool sell yet another top talent to a La Liga giant? And how much should the club demand for his services?
