Kenny Dalglish is in the search for a new assistant manager following Sammy Lee’s departure from Liverpool football club today.

Steve Clarke’s appointment as number two shortly after Dalglish’s arrival at Anfield in January spelt the beginning of the end for Lee who joined the Liverpool backroom staff under Rafael Benitez back in 2008.

Barring a spell at Bolton as assistant manager and manager, Lee has been a Liverpool man for most of his playing and coaching career and the 52-year-old will be sad to depart Anfield for a second time.

It’s another sign that Dalglish is preparing to overhaul the club as they bid to return to the top four and with the arrivals of Luis Suarez and Andy Carroll in January, plus the arrival of Jordan Henderson this summer, King Kenny is looking to stamp his authority.

Both Charlie Adam and Stuart Downing are expected to complete moves to Liverpool this summer and Steven Gerrard believes his manager’s activity in the transfer window can set them up for a crack at the Premier League title.

“What I can say to the fans is that Liverpool will be back among the trophies sooner rather than later because we are moving in the right direction,” said Gerrard.

“We have got fantastic players, the structure of the club is healthy from top to bottom and when that is the case then the team won’t be too far away from winning.”

Gerrard spent a lot of last season on the sidelines and Dalglish was only able to name the midifielder in seven of his squads, and with the arrival of Henderson plus the potential arrivals of Adam and Downing, Dalglish has a whole new midfield to work with next season.

It’s exciting times for Liverpool who have found owners that are willing to back the manager with a transfer budget and with Arsenal struggling to keep hold of their players, the Redscan certainly have their eye on fourth spot.
