Liverpool’s summer recruitment drive is well and truly on. With Champions League football secured for next season the Reds have put their deal-makers on overtime, trying to sign the players that will not only boost their squad numbers, but add considerable quality too.
Adam Lallana has been an early target; Swansea’s Wilfried Bony is attracting supposed Reds interest too but the man that really will get the Anfield faithful excited for next season is Barcelona’s Alexis Sanchez.
It’s thought that Brendan Rodgers wants to add the £18m man to his roster for next season and the Chilean’s arrival would make Liverpool, already a formidable attacking unit, one of the continent’s most feared forward lines.
The combination of Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge helped Liverpool, who are 5/1 to win the league next season, score over 100 top-flight goals this term.
Sanchez, who joined the Catalan giants for £30m from Udinese in 2011, is thought to be part of a serious reshuffle at the Camp Nou, following a disappointing season in which the Blaugrana finished empty handed.
Tata Martino has already paid the price for the campaign, having resigned from the manager’s position following the club’s 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid.
The playing staff is also expected to undergo changes with Sanchez one of a number of players Barca are willing to listen to offers for.
With Lionel Messi and Neymar in the same squad, Sanchez’s playing time hasn’t been as regular as it would be should he make a Merseyside switch.
Despite a bit-part role, the 25-year-old still has an impressive goal scoring record for Barca, notching 39 times in 88 La Liga appearances and playing a hand in 25 more goals through assists.
That kind of striking pedigree, at such a knock down price, would be a serious feather in the cap for Rodgers should he successful in his pursuit.
