Liverpool haven’t quite taken enough from Barcelona this season, apparently.

Having gladly swapped a banned biter for £75m with the La Liga giants earlier in the summer, the Reds are reportedly keen to return to the Nou Camp in order to bring Alex Song back with them.

Whether Brendan Rodgers needs a 10th signing of the silly season following his Suarez-based lottery win is debateable, but it seems the Northern Irishman is intent on doing so, with the Cameroonian the target.

Song has been a fringe player with the Catalan club ever since he switched his red Arsenal shirt for a mix of blue and deeper rouge and seems finally willing to start playing football regularly again.

Barcelona want £10m for the player to depart permanently, but canny old Liverpool are reportedly enquiring about a season-long loan deal first.

Should Song impress on Merseyside over the course of the campaign, Liverpool will then entertain shaking hands on a full transfer.

With five central midfielders already on the Anfield books, Song would experience a similar level of competition for his place as he currently endures at Barca.

However, with regular midfield fancy Lucas Leiva perennially injured, the former Gunner would surely fancy his chances of leapfrogging Joe Allen and youngster Emre Can in the pecking order.

The 26-year-old was something of an assist machine in his final term at the Emirates, registering 11 in the 2011/12 Premier League campaign and showing he has more to his game than breaking up play.

Having been ripped apart by a Stevan Jovetic-led Man City, Liverpool’s title odds took a hit with Ladbrokes and currently stand at 14/1. They are 17/10 to get back on track with a win against Tottenham next time out.
