Infamous for dashing England dreams of a place at the 1994 World Cup with his crafty free kick, Ronald Koeman could soon be taking on the English again, this time in charge of Welsh club Swansea.

Koeman currently coaches Feyenoord, but has already stated his intentions to move on this summer and has got tongues wagging that his chosen destination is the Liberty Stadium.

The Dutchman has reportedly made contact with the Swans through his agent Guido Albers, to register his interest in taking the reins at the Premier League club.

“Albers indeed approached with the question of whether Koeman was a suitable candidate for Swansea.

“I passed on the number of the agent to Huw Jenkins and whether there has been any contact I really do not know. I know that the club is very pleased with Garry Monk,” said Swansea City director John van Zweden.

Swans legend, Monk, took over from Michael Laudrup in February for the “foreseeable future”, after the club saw fit to sack the Dane despite him delivering the Capital One Cup the previous season.

Monk’s appointment received immediate vindication as he oversaw a rousing 3-0 derby triumph over arch rivals Cardiff in his first game, though six winless matches since have highlighted the possible need for a more experienced long-term replacement.

Koeman certainly has bundles of know-how and having shown his cards already, it brings Monk’s future in his interim post into serious doubt, where the caretaker is a 25/1-shot to be the next top-flight boss to leave.

As well as managing a host of top clubs in Holland including Ajax, Koeman has been an assistant at Barcelona and spent a season managing Valencia as well.
